Yakezie Round Up – Retirement Edition

April 9, 2010 by Mrs. Frugal

I’ve been thinking about our retirement plans a lot lately. Even though we’re still a ways away from that phase of our life (I’m 36 and my husband is 39) we’re in that critical time where if we don’t have a clear plan in place and goals to focus on, we could fall short of what we need to retire at all. As I mentioned in What is Your Vision for Retirement I’m now working on our retirement plan and look forward to sharing that with you. In the meantime, check out these great articles from my fellow Yakezie members as they discuss the various ways they are preparing for retirement.

Early retirement: The extreme method @ Monevator – Jacob of Early Retirement Extreme shares his path to early retirement at the age of 30. Part 1 of a 3 part series.

IRA Withdrawal Rules – When Can You Withdraw Your IRA? @ Redeeming Riches – Jason discusses when you can take money from your IRA.

How To Generate Income During Retirement @ Wealth Pilgrim – Neal encourages us to take control of our future and gives us 4 ideas to generate income during retirement.

Maximize your Retirement Account @ Money Funk – Christine is looking for ways to max out her 403(b).

Where Public Policy Fails, You Must Fill The Gap @ 20s Money – Kevin encourages us not to expect any retirement assistance from the government. Instead, take care of your own security to make sure your covered in your retirement years.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Thanks for including me in this great list of articles!! For retirement, we all need to set our sights high, create plan and track our progress regularly!! Thanks for the mention!!

  2. Thanks for highlighting the group Mrs. Frugal!

You’re right regarding the mid 30′s being a critical time, and having goals. I share with you the exact same feeling.

Best to you and your husband!

    Rgds,

    Sam

Hey, retirement and the 30′s must be quite a mix (I’ll be 38 this year). I am realizing ‘time on my side’ is going away slowly. I may not be up to par, but I did increase my 403(b) contributions after I wrote the article. And I realize that I may need to invest in Real Estate to jump it up a few notches. But that is all in the near future. *just keep on trekkin’*

Thanks for the link luv! And good luck with reaching your retirement goals.

Thanks for including my – or rather Jacob’s – post. :)

I’m around the same as age you, and Sam, and Money Funk. Perhaps 30s is the perfect storm of personal finance interest *and* blogging inclinations? ;)
